We’ve arrived at our first anniversary on Parkers Landing. Between work and the call of the beach, it’s difficult to get much done. I’m also plagued with decorating ADD. It’s time to force myself to focus and it makes sense to start with first impressions. Our new construction is woefully lacking in the landscape department. My husband and I are formulating a plan for the front yard and porch.
We started with an easy project. Our four black concrete planters got a makeover. Damian spray painted them with Rust-Oleum in Carolina Blue. It’s the perfect pop of color against our light yellow house. After an ill-fated trial of Hibiscus at our front door, we’ve switched to evergreen topiaries. I covered the soil with shells we’ve collected on Isle of Palms.
I scored two 5’x8′ outdoor rugs for both sides of the porch on clearance at Pier 1 Imports. These are heavy enough that they won’t blow away. Next up:
- Order a black resin porch swing to match our two rocking chairs;
- Replace the lighting. If the price is right, we’re hoping for traditional gas lanterns;
- Paint the front door. I’ll post samples and you can help me choose a color;
- Stain the porch with a soft white wash;
