The ‘New Pearls’ for All the Girls
After my stylish friend Melanie gifted me with Charleston Rice Beads, they became my jewelry go-to. Jewelry designer, Deirdre Zahl was inspired by the 1970s Charleston Rice Bead necklaces she found while collecting vintage jewelry. Worn in the Flapper-style, they can be wrapped and worn at different lengths. The aptly-named beads are are the shape and texture of rice – a historical staple of our port city and nearby plantations. She created an updated and very popular line for her store Candy Shop Vintage located 9 Cannon Street. Stop in or shop online. $30 and up.
