Birthplace of American Golf

Dreaming of a golf lifestyle? Here in Charleston, South Carolina, a day on the green is par for the course. The city became the birthplace of American golf in 1743 when a shipment of 432 golf balls and ninety-six clubs arrived from Scotland. In 1786, Scottish merchants formed the South Carolina Golf Club on a rough field known as Harleston Green. This is where the term “green’s fee” originated. Golfers would yell “fore” to “fore”warn playing children and others in the busy area. Click here for a fun read on that history.

Today, the area boasts more than 20 Championship courses. Some have scenic coastal views while others are buffered by beautiful low country forests. With accommodating year-round weather, it’s a player’s paradise. And you’re sure to score a hole-in-one home. Just contact me to receive coming soon & new golf course home listings.
